Summit Trail, Mount Augustus

The very challenging Summit Trail takes walkers to the top of the biggest ‘rock’ in the world, Mount Augustus. Twice as high as Uluru (Ayers Rock) the experienced walker will be rewarded with extensive views over the surrounding plain to the distant ranges.

6 - 7 hours. Distance is 12km return
Access to the Trail
Mainly unsealed roads. Roads may be closed after heavy rain. Check conditions before travelling. Carry ample fuel, water and supplies to cope with all possible occurrences - see Group D list.

What to Pack
Carry at least four litres of water per person, get an early start and do not do this walk in hot weather.
Group B items required.
- Minimum 2 litres of water per person per day
- Sturdy shoes
- Sun hat or bike helmet (compulsory in WA)
- Sunglasses, sunscreen (30+) and insect repellant
- Binoculars and camera (optional)
- Map or guide book where suggested
- Snacks and/or lunch depending on length of trail
- Clothes to suit the activity and potential weather conditions including a water/windproof jacket
- Spray bottle of methylated spirits to spray boots and tyres in disease risk areas
- First Aid kit

No camping or open fires in National Park or Pastoral Lease . No pets
