Cathedral Gorge

Discover Cathedral Gorge, an astonishing natural amphitheatre of red rock located within the Bungle Bungle Ranges in Purnululu National Park. The unusual bee hive striped formations and deep gorges make it one of the most fascinating geological landmarks and one of two World Heritage sites in Western Australia.

1.5 - 2.5 hours. Distance is 4km return
Access to the Trail
Air or road to Kununurra. 4WD track into National Park. See Group D items on Trail Tips page. Roads may be closed after heavy rain, check conditions before travelling

What to Pack
Take a minimum of 4 litres of water per person.
Group B items required.
- Minimum 2 litres of water per person per day
- Sturdy shoes
- Sun hat or bike helmet (compulsory in WA)
- Sunglasses, sunscreen (30+) and insect repellant
- Binoculars and camera (optional)
- Map or guide book where suggested
- Snacks and/or lunch depending on length of trail
- Clothes to suit the activity and potential weather conditions including a water/windproof jacket
- Spray bottle of methylated spirits to spray boots and tyres in disease risk areas
- First Aid kit
Hazards
Temperatures can get very hot (up to 50 degrees), walk in the early morning or late afternoon
