Cycling in Western Australia
Western Australia is a great place to explore by bicycle. The climate is sunny and much of the terrain is flat. Perth and some of the larger regional centres have excellent networks of paths and on-road facilities for cyclists. You can bring your own bike or hire/buy one when you arrive.
On this website you'll find information on the Top Trails - however, if you have more time, the Department of Transport has an excellent cycle tourism section on its website with maps for around 30 recreational cycle routes around the south west of the State and 10 mountain bike trails. It also provides good information regarding bike hire outlets, public transport and safety tips for cycling.
The cycling maps and guides are also available at most visitor information centres and bike shops. For more information call + 61 8 9216 8000.
Most of Perth’s bike riding is on dual-use paths where you should keep left whenever possible and remember that pedestrians have priority at roads, make sure it is safe to cross before leaving the path. Obey all road rules and for your own protection, wear a helmet at all times. See the Trail Tips page for more information.
